Defining User Permissions & Moderating Posts (9 posts)

    Hello.

I have two "How To" questions:

Is there a way to custom define permissions for the various user groups in my WordPress? I can't seem to find an option that would allow me to have strict control over what my various user groups can and can't do on my WordPress.

Is there a way to enable post moderation so that, when someone posts an article or blog entry, I have to approve it before it gets published? (I'm not talking about the comments but the actual post entries themselves....)

Thanks, in advance, for your help.

In Roles_and_Capabilities it shows that only Editors, Authors, and Administrators can publish posts so you'll want to choose how you allot that capability if you install and change Roles with the Role Manager plugin.

Thank you both for responding to this thread.

I'd like for Author's to be able to post but for the post to go into a queue so that one of the adnimistrators can approve it for publishing. I don't want to eliminate an author's ability to post outright, though.

Looks like you may want to try defining some new Roles with the Role Manager plugin.

SC - I'd recommend just telling them to save their posts as drafts so that an admin can approve them and put them "live"

I will play around with this handy Roles Manager plugin some more and advise the guy I installed the WP for to tell them to save their posts as drafts.

    Thanks for the help.

This sounds a bit confusing. You can define whether they can write/edit a post - or publish. Those are two different capabilities!

[idem = the same; sorry, old school Latin studies...]
