I would like to suggest that the default 'Hello World' post should contain instructional information, for new users, about how to login, navigate the admin screens, and make simple posts.
It would be a little more useful than the default post that's currently there.

Good idea! That would be a great way for you to contribute to the project, too!

I'll try. I'm not the best 'instructive' writer, though. Maybe I can put something together, post here, and have group-edit fun.

Excellent! You could also use the wiki - http://wiki.wordpress.org and create a page if you like. Or even post on your own site and then provide a link. It may get lost in the forums...
    All contributions are much appreciated.

JamiLin, the suggestion from the original poster was aimed at changing the default "Hello World" post which appears after installation to help a new WordPress user figure how to do things in WordPress.

What you're asking for is a bit different (more of a "Welcome to my blog, World" message). You'll find a lot of ways to accomplish that. A good place to start is the plugin listings on the WP Codex:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Plugins/Posts_Miscellaneous

Search the page for the word 'sticky'. Also, the support forums have an overabundance of info on the topic:
