default date range of WordPress

    Greetings — I’m thinking of using WordPress to add historical entries from a family diary — back to 1958, but I find that WP can’t understand those dates — anyone know what the default date range is for WP and if it is possible to alter it or is it hard-wired into the basic structure of the platform?
