Decompression failed on downloading files from my website

    I have a website that I’ve been running for about 1.5 years now. It runs on WordPress and uses several plug-ins. I started receiving complaints a few days ago from users saying that when they download my files they are getting a decompression failed error. I have not changed the files they are downloading, WordPress, plug-ins or any of the server settings. I have had users report this problem on Mac and PC. My website is http://www.openresources.org I’m using WordPress 2.7 with the Drain Hole plug-in 2.2.6

    You have to create a free account in order to download a file and see the error that everyone is getting.

    Can anyone help me with this?

    Have you tried downloading any of the files yourself to confirm the issue?

    Do your local compressed copies OK? Have you tried re-uploading all compressed files?

    My local files uncompress fine (before I have uploaded them). I tried re-uploading them and still have the same problem when I download them. Interestingly enough, if I put a zip file on a different location on my server and access the direct link it downloads fine. It seems to only be the zip files located in the drain hole that use a re-write of the url. The weird thing is that I haven’t changed anything with this…

    Have a look at WP-DownloadManager instead of Drain Hole. I’ve had absolutely no problems with it on a couple of sites.

    Does WP-DownloadManager track the number of downloads for each file and require users to be logged in to download files?

    Yes

    and require users to be logged in to download files

    Yes – that’s just one of its download limitation options.

    It looks like my website was hacked somehow. I have restored everything but I’m still receiving a 404 error when accessing my wp-admin (or any subfolder). Other than not being able to access the dashboard, my website seems to be functioning normally (including the ability to download zip files).
