[resolved] DB backup in the list disappears after restore (24 posts)

I find it odd that the after doing "Restore" (example: I restored backup 2013-11-22 7:59), the DB backup disappears in the list. What if I decide to "Restore" the same backup (2013-11-22 7:59)? I cannot restore the DB because it says "(No database)".

    Hi clickmarketing,

Good spot! This is a new issue that came in in a recent version - UpdraftPlus was incorrectly detecting whether or not the backup file could be deleted post-restore from the local storage. (It is only meant to delete them if it knows it has another copy in cloud storage, e.g. Dropbox).

Now fixed - de-install and then re-install UpdraftPlus, and you'll have the fix. Alternatively, update to the development version (http://updraftplus.com/faqs/devversion).

    Best wishes,
    David

Does the database come back if you press the 'rescan' link?

    Hi,

If the database appears when you press 'rescan', then just press 'rescan'. The reason why it disappears until after you do a restore after you press 'rescan' is because after you restore, you are restoring to the point in time before the backup was complete; at which point there was not yet a database in the backup set. The restore restores everything in your database - which includes UpdraftPlus's records too.

Probably I should get UD to do an automatic rescan after a restore, but I need to think through the consequences of that.

Sorry, but I already pressed 'rescan' a lot of times but the DB backup still won't reappear.

Can you update to the dev version - http://updraftplus.com/faqs/devversion - and then do a restore, and post the entire log file from the restore (using pastebin.com), please?

"What do you mean: is your backup method email??"

What method have you got selected under "Remote Storage"? Is it "email"?

P.S. That log isn't from the development version:

    0000.003 () UpdraftPlus WordPress backup plugin (http://updraftplus.com): 1.8.2

The development version is 1.8.3 or later - 1.8.2 is the release version.

    Remote storage is S3.

Sorry. I already installed the correct dev version.
I also noticed the uploads folder is missing from the backup:
Warning: Looked-for uploads zip (0) was not found (backup_2013-12-27-0531_My_Blog_dd5452cdd121-uploads.zip.tmp)

    Here's the log file

I can't comment on that unless you post the log file for the backup run.

OK. I will send you the backup log.

Do you have feedback for our problem with the restore?

    Thanks!

Warning: Looked-for uploads zip (0) was not found

On that one, please update to the latest UD version and see if it still happens. I think it is because you have zero files in your uploads folder (only directories)... if memory serves me rightly, we found that one of the three zip engines produced this warning in this situation, and I think we fixed it.

Do you have feedback for our problem with the restore?

On this, I don't have anything to add to my earlier comment:

    Hi David,

A follow up on this problem:

I noticed that when I restore a backup and the Remote Storage was set to Amazon S3, the db disappears in the list (rescanning doesn't make it reappear). But when there is no Remote Storage set, the db does not disappear.

I check in the S3 the db file is present but seems like the plugin cannot detect it anymore.

I hope this helped. We are interested in buying the add-ons but this problem makes us hesitate. I hope this can be fixed.

    Hi,

If you update to the development version - http://updraftplus.com/faqs/devversion - then you should see in the "Restore" section a new link, "rescan remote storage". Click that, and it should pick up the database file in S3.

I just updated to the dev version but it still won't recognize the DB in the remote storage after I clicked "rescan remote storage" link numerous times.

    Hi,

Please can you send me WP login details to contact at updraftplus dot com? Then I can take a look. It'd be great to find the problem before the next release.

    Best wishes,
    David

    Hi,

    Thanks - received.

I found the bug in the detection of files in remote storage, and fixed it; it has now found the database backup for your site. The bug affected only situations where other files from the same backup set were already known about, which is why we had not spotted it before. I'm glad we've got this before releasing it!

    Best wishes,
    David
