• I’m a newbie with WordPress.

I am running events, and I have a contact form where I want the user to enter a preferred date for their event – if they know it.

Previously, I just has a text field where they could type what they wanted, e.g. 10/02/13 or 02/10/13 or 2 Oct 2013 or ‘some time in early October’

I’d still like to offer this option but use the datepicker for them to choose a date if they know it (so that the format can be better controlled and there’s no ambiguity over dd/mm/yy or mm/dd/yy).

The date picker seems to be driven off a field of type DATE so it’s not possible it seems to use it for text input. And I’d like to avoid having to present a DATE field and a TEXT field to the user with an explanation of how/when to use them.

Any suggestions please as to how I best do what I want to achieve?

It’s a disappointing to see over 2 months go by and still no response. I am happy to support these developments with contributions but I don’t want to give my backing to a development without timely or visible support. I see – unfortunately – that others are waiting a long time for responses. I will vote with my feet.
