Multiple tries to install (on my host's server which has WordPress as an option) get the same error message:

"The WordPress install failed: Database "wordpress" dropped"

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Who is the host?

My host is WestHost - and they just have Version 2.0.1 rather than 2.0.2

Apparently The Computer Gremlin doesn't think I should use WordPress. I gave up on WestHost and went through the normal download process from WordPress. Now it's all loaded, but I can't see the .php pages, only the .html ones. I can see http://www.explorenorth.com/wordpress/readme.html for example, but not http://www.explorenorth.com/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php even though I can see it on the server. Must be time for a break..... :(

    something if fishy ...

what did you use to upload the wordpress files?

i would say, try uploading the files again.

i do see the html file and no php ...

    really strange ...

oh.. wait this might be the cause .. are you on a UNIX server Windows ... you need to have PHP and mySQL installed if using Windoze ...

I loaded with FTP - PHP and mySQL were installed with the WestHost system.

WS_FTP - the php files I loaded onto a client's site (also WestHost server) are fine.

explorenorth . i would not know exactly unless i was personally able to have look at your server folder structure. if you trust me, and i have no reason not to be honest, allow me brief FTP access to your site to see if I can see the files there ...

explorenorth - while I am sure DesignPastor's intentions may be fine, you should be aware that disclosing your details for any site access puts your site at risk. It is highly recommended that you do not allow such access unless you are absolutely confident and these forums cannot be held in any way responsible should you elect to do so.

DesignPastor - please do not offer such a 'service'. You have no site for people to check, you have no history on these forums. While you may well be honest, this offering of access for a problem which is solvable is not a practice we want to see let alone start.

If there is a problem with what I have written, please take any reply to the Forum Rules sticky.

explorenorth - install.php is there. I just went to it and it downloaded to my machine. It has no content.

I would suggest unzipping again, deleting the files from the server and reuploading, being careful to upload in ASCII mode.

Thanks for the tries, but nothing has worked. I'm giving up on this. I've been building Web sites since 1997, and if I can't figure something like this out after this many hours, it just doesn't need to happen.

well i think that's kind of silly - you obviously just had a corrupted download, or your files weren't uploading properly.

all you need do is get a fresh download and try with maybe another FTP program (smartFTP is free).

    podz:

sorry for stepping out of line. i am quite aware that explorenorth does not know me from anyone else on these forums. anyone can claim to be whoever they want.

    I APOLOGIZE!

as such, i have a site now listed in my profile so that those who come across a post i make can make an informed decision if i am who i say i am.

i have no reason to lie or harm anyone and their site. but then, you cannot really trust that - but i can only prove it by my actions here at these forums and offer helpful advice. hopefully that will start a track record.

the site is a good start, designpastor - another good way to make a great impression is to leave out the signature lines in your posts - especially since they've been moderated out of other posts before...

i'm sure you understand that no one would've assumed the worst of you for any other reason than with only a 4 day old account (and even with a link in the profile) you're still anonymous around here yet. it's ALWAYS best to try to help out within the forum walls... if you can't help here, then it's probably best to just leave it to someone who can rather than try to take it outside the forums... that's all. :)

    ladylaluna ... thanks.

i really want ppl to know that i am an honest person. i am still new at this thing .. and so much i am learning by coming to the forums ...

i do understand the whole anonymity issue ... anyone can assume to the best person out there then turn and stab you in the back.

thanks for looking out for me. i really appreciate that.

    take care.
