   Um - When i try and run the install in the browser like it tells me to - it comes up with a big fat ERROR -

   it ses either my username is wrong or password is wrong or server is down - but i have double and triple checked all of these and they are working fine - i tried uploading the wp-config.php file agen a few times and that hasnt changed anything....

   Wot am i not doing? HELP!

   How about your localhost? My web host is in the 1% of host that had to have a different name. That is probably not your problem, but if I did not say anything it would be.

   i've kept my host as localhost

   but its just not registering - there is another topic just down from this one and the guy there seems to have the exact same problem...

   Is this just summit with wordpress 2.8 or are we both doing something wrong????

   I can reach my wordpress database in my sql server, but wp-admin/install.php is getting a database connect error. I'd like to know what logs are suggested to view to see what's going on.

   I had the same problem, and I contacted my host. They tried to fix it, so the error message is gone, but my site still doesn't load. HELP!

   I recently upgraded to 2.8 also, but I did this for another site that's hosted under the same account.

   My host said the following:

   "It appears that the config details you had for the database had a database user who's pass did not match that which was within cpanel. I've updated your mysql user to have the pass from your connection string. The upgrade however seems to have more problems than just that, as the page still does not load after having established a database connection. You may want to consult your site designer or wordpress.org for troubleshooting the site code."

   YES sorted

   I contacted my server host and he said that where i was gong wrong was that i needed to have the username the same as the database name and they werent so thats why mine wasnt working - hope that helps people
