Sigh. These WordPress forums are very confusing, possibly b/c I have a brain injury. I couldn’t get this to post, then I got a message saying it was deleted because it duplicated another question. But, here it is, only questions after mine are already answered, but not mine… So I’m not sure if it’s showing properly.
Sigh.
A site which was not moved from one provider to another has only two rows in it, whereas previously, when I made it, it had dozens…
So, the loss must be related to the upgrade…
This is my test page ~ at the bottom of the page you can see what happens if I use the shortcode from a previously created table, i.e. one I did not create today, but which was always on this site which has always been hosted by iPage … the appearance of the table is not ideal… lol

Hi,
thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.
Lost data is ugly, and the only reason that I possibly see for that is the transfer of the site from one provider to the other. It’s likely that some data was not transferred in that process. The update doesn’t touch the table data (as that’s in the database, while the files are on the server).
The table in the link that you posted is looking weird because somehow the Shortcode has been placed as the value of a text field — which doesn’t make sense.
if you want, I can offer to take a direct look at this on your site. Could you therefore please create a temporary admin account for me and send me the details via email (the address is in the main plugin file “tablepress.php”)? That way, I can investigate this directly. Thanks!
Regards,
Tobias
Hi Tobias,
I don’t know how to create a temporary Admin. My brain injury is ultra irritating because it makes doing things, confusing time consuming and difficult.
My database was supposed to have been transferred, too. let me check on that. Okay, I have a LOT of tables b/c after I made them and they were wrong, I didn’t delete them. Checking more carefully, the tables I use seem okay after all, but I can’t find what I need to copy to make the new table have the first and second column close together…
Please can you tell me again?
Oh, and is there a way to make certain rows contain Bold…
I forgot to put in blank rows to define categories… Bold headings would work around that.
Hi,
creating a temporary admin account is easy. You’ll basically just have to add a new user on the “Users” screen in the WordPress admin Dashboard.
Ok, so there’s actually no data missing from the tables, and all tables are there?
Before we can fix those issues with the distances and the bold font, we’ll need to make the table show nicely again on the page from your link above. For that, the admin account would be really helpful.
Regards,
Tobias
Hi Tobias,
That’s my test page, so it’s different from ones that people see. When you mentioned the problem, or CrouchingBruin did, I shortly thereafter discovered that the problem has to do with the way I switch back and forth between Visual and Text, so that I can make html that will show up in my widgets. (I couldn’t get my widgets to work show pictures, so I copied your donate thing with your picture and used it as a standard to copy, not the actual picture and text, but the way it looks that makes it work.) I need to buy you another cup of coffee for that help, alone!
the thing is, that in switching back and forth some weird things can happen. Really weird. Odd things get duplicated, as an example, instead of spaces being added.
I don’t use the switching approach on any of my pages that people see, so the tables people see are all lovely, in accordance with your Super plug in.
I’m almost out of time on my solar, it’s very cloudy today.
Hi,
yes, switching between the Visual and Text editor is ugly. Unfortunately, this often breaks HTML code that one entered. I’d therefore suggest to be very careful with that and avoid switching, if possible.
So, to sum up: On which page do you still have problems with a table, or where do you want to change something?
Regards,
Tobias
Hi Tobias,
Thanks for confirming that switching can cause problems. Whew! I really appreciate your confirmation.
Now, I just need to know how to make the distance between columns short. I used to copy from earlier tables, but since the transfer I can’t find the relevant material.
It’s the table on this page:

Hi,
thanks for the link!
For this table, you’ll probably want to add this to the “Custom CSS” textarea on the “Plugin Options” screen of TablePress:
.tablepress-id-2 {
width: auto;
}
This will shrink the table so that it fits the content.

Tobias
