[resolved] dashboard widget redesign (7 posts)

This might be a bit basic, but I've spend near two hours hunting the docs, so I've tried :(

I simply need to know how to modify the widgets on the dashboard, same as the widgets on site pages can be dragged and dropped and removed, etc, or is there another way.

I simply wish to remove the recent comments section from the dashboard, as I'm using the edit flow plugin. All the posts in edit flow are supposed to be private, but when using the comments feature on the edit flow posts, these are still going into the general dashboard recent comments feed. I can figure out no way to stop this, so figured just to remove the recent comments from the dashboard. Now I've discovered I can't figure out how to that either.
Can anyone help a dummy out ?
    Thanks, Mark.

Sorry to hear that this EF bug is causing you so much pain. However, I can at least solve your hours of frustration: you can remove it either for just your user profile or for all. The former is super easy; the latter requires some code. Both are answered here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-remove-boxes-from-the-dashboard

And, from the topic linked above, this would allow you to disable the widget without any code: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/dashboard-heaven/

    Wow, great!

Thanks for those, SB, just had a quick look at them and they sound like they might be the answer. Not good with code, but if the plugin works I shouldn't need it, otherwise I'll hire a tech, now I know that it can be done.

    That's a great help.

    Cheers :)

Glad to have helped. What version of EF are you using? The issue you actually encountered should have been fixed in EF 0.6.

    o.5.2

    That'd be an answer then.

But, I've figured a way around it such that I'm using the feature to notify editors and writers of updates to items by email for efficiency, so now I'm making use of the problem to my advantage and don't want to change it!

Life, lemons and lemonade; thinking outside the box :)

    Thanks for your help, SB!

Glad that things are working well for you, but I would strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest and greatest - there are a lot of new features in Edit Flow 0.6.2 that you're missing out on, and even more on the way!

    Thanks,
    Scott
