    I think that it would be nice if we had more of a choice in what our dashboard looks like and what colours we use. I mean, its OUR dashboard, why does it have to look so ugly?

    All I'm asking, is that you give us the option to have use of the previous dashboard colours and designs. Like the new dashboard design that comes with version 3.2 is just awful. It makes me want to quit my site completely. That's bad.

    You claim that wordpress is made for users. Then why it is that we THE USERS, can't customize it? All I want is use of the previous wordpress dashboard designs instead of this design.

    PLEASE, make these changes. Give us options.

    Urgently provide in the coming hours a dashboard.

    That is very urgent. What you have provided in your latest release is a ****.

    We are lost. We need our dashboard back on the left side column urgently.

    The dashboard's appearance has been redesigned with future versions of WordPress in mind. It can be customized via plugins or CSS.

    I don't want to create my own admin theme. I just want access to the old designs. I don't see what that's so hard for WordPress to provide for us. I don't think its too much to ask for.

    I completely agree with Angeliclies.

    I am not a design so I cannot code. If you are not able to provide please provide a link to download the previous version where I canget that.

    That is not too much to ask for real.

  6. The new design of the 3.2 dashboard is the direction WordPress is headed. There is no way to easily bring back the old design.

    Ipstenu,

    All they have to do is upgrade the coding to fit the new updates and changes. It would take a bit of effort, but it can be done. Like I said above, isn't wordpress all about the users? Why wouldn't they want to go with what the users like as well?

    All we want is use of the previous dashboard design. That's all that we're asking for. Its not that big of a request. All that needs to be done, is make some changed to the previous dashboard theme. They just need to upgrade and import it into WordPress.

    If I knew how or could figure it our, I would do it. I can't though. I don't know enough about the coding being used. I'm not as experienced as they are.

    What we're asking for, its not that much. We just want access to a design that already exists! That's all we want. Its not that big of a request.

    (PS. Thanks for closing my other topic even though it wasn't a duplicate. Can't you read? Obviously not.)

    claudeleroy,

    Thank you for your support! Its great to see that I'm not the only one who doesn't like the new WordPress dashboard.

    Like the new dashboard design that comes with version 3.2 is just awful. It makes me want to quit my site completely. That's bad.

    <sarcasm>
    Like, I wanna quit my site too! I mean, who can write posts with all that ugliness??? I tried to write one this morning and got so flustered I had to be rushed to the hospital in cardiac arrest! The designers? OFF WITH THEIR HEADS I SAY!

    Dear God, please make me a bird so I can fly far far away from here.
    </sarcasm>

    Seriously? Or is this some Candid Camera joke? Because the dashboard doesn't look much different than it did before the update. It's very functional, perhaps a bit plainer, but who cares what it looks like? It's the site that needs to look good not the tool you use to post content to it.

    Sigh.

  10. The WordPress users are more than just you and I. There are millions of people using it, and you can't please them all.

    Have a read of this: http://mattnt.com/2011/07/05/design-in-wordpress-3-2/

    it may explain some of the reasons to you better than I can.

    Please feel free to submit your patches to WordPress Trac.

    isn't wordpress all about the users?

    Actually it's more about the community. You get out of it what you put in. If you don't like the new dashboard, create an admin theme, develop some admin plugins, get involved in core development or beta testing but please don't just sit back and say that all it would take is "a bit of effort" unless you prepared to put something back into the community yourself.

    I think that a lot of you are basing wordpress on some idea that I want an all new theme created. How hard is it just to ask for the old design back? How hard is that? Its not.

    If I could do any of the coding you all are suggesting, don't you think I would have? This new design is CRAP. It is BLINDING. Excuse me for enjoying being able to see. Everything WHITE. WHITE. WHITE. EVERYWHERE.

    How hard is it just to ask for the old design back?

    It's simply not possible. The new admin interface is part of the longer term development plans for WordPress.

    Ipstenu,

    You can please more people if you give people more options. WordPress isn't about options though. Especially now. Now its just about blinding the users with WHITE, WHITE, WHITE with little bits of light grey and a squishy, stuffed in the corner, sidebar. That's a great set up.

    esmi,

    Longer? Oh god. I'll be blind with this horrid color scheme and design. Well, I guess everything turned out like MySpace did. WordPress will become "TheirPress" and it won't give a shit about the community or the users. because if this disgusting thing is what they're going with, we'll all be blind or wearing sunglasses.

  15. I don't work for WP. I'm just a volunteer mod, and general busy body :)

    That said, anticipating your sort of unhappiness, I did just take the time to rewrite http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_Admin_Themes with how you can style your admin section to be whatever colors you want.

    Angeliclies...

    It sounds to me like you have some sort of probably user created problem going on since my dashboard is not WHITE WHITE WHITE nor is it squishy anywhere. As I said before, it's barely different than it was before. The only difference I see is that the menu on the left is a little different. [content moderated]

    PS: I should remind you that this is free software. Please feel free to find one that's not free that better suits your needs.

    For those who are blaming Angeliclies, as far as I know, wordpress is notmeant for only developers. It means that anyone can use it. Then those who are able to ad their knowlegde to improve it do it in many ways.

    WordPress is also done to help those like us who don't know anything in programming a sigle "div" so for us, what we can do is to make suggestion to improve what is out and programmers can implement it.

    In a community, we cannot do the same thing as we do not have the same skills.

    The new dashboard does not help. Maybe it can help you designer but wordpress is not done for designers, it has been implemented for non designers.

    What we are suggesting is to implement the previous dashboard under the new version and give the possibility to designer to implement their own dashboard if they want. That is not so difficult to ask.

    Now if you are not ready to be so kind with non designers because youare selfish then please do not post here. We are posting here to get the main developper of wordpress to take into account our views.

    It has now been two (2) and I can't even post a single article because I am lost and that is what Angeliclies is talking about.

    Please Moderator, help us to implement the previous dashboard under the new program.

    Many thanks

    claudeleroy,

    Thank you. You have hit the nail on the head! You explain everything perfectly. All we want is for the moderators to bring this up. We just want the old dashboard as an option. We just want it to be up as a choice. So we can choose what we want. Thats all we're asking for.

    Again, thank you. You're exactly on and I appreciate your support! :)

    Like you said, Please Moderator, help us to implement the previous dashboard under the new program.

    Thank you!

    Ipstenu,

    I don't want to change the colours though. I want to bring back the old theme and that page, even now, doesn't show me how to do that. It only shows me how to edit the colours and basic style sheet styles. You don't even tell us where to find the CSS to change. So that doesn't help at all.

  21. No one is (or really should be, sorry if they are) blaming anyone. _AngelicLies doesn't like it. That's okay :)

    Here's the deal: Not liking something does not make it a bug. This is me, as a moderator, telling you what I have been told. Think of it as the corporate bottom line. And now, you get two choices.

    1) Learn to live with it.
    2) Learn to change it.

    But that's it. And there is not, and probably will never be, an officially sanctioned WP quick fix. Someone like you may make a public plugin for it, but that's up to them.

    You don't even tell us where to find the CSS to change. So that doesn't help at all.

    They're in /wp-admin/css (and I'd added a ref to that back in, sorry about that - documentation is a work in progress always).

    All of that styling is CSS. The code rendering the page didn't change much (if at all). So if you know how to use FireBug (or inspect element in Chrome/Safari), then you can examine what the call is and edit it :) Which is really just basic CSS.

    You COULD take a look at the 3.1.4 files in /wp-admin/css and see what happens if you pull those over. It may work, it may not.

    DO NOT overlay the files in wp-admin though, no matter how good an idea you think that is. It'll hurt.

    Ok, someone PLEASE enlighten me. Apparently I'm missing something. My dashboard looks EXACTLY the same except the menu on the left is SLIGHTLY different.

    This new dashboard totally sucks. Now I can't find anything. Where are my plug-ins. Where are my settings. This is completely screwed up.
    If this is supposed to be working towards future developments of WP then Heaven help us.
    WP users unite - we want our old dashboard back!!

  24. thisisedie - http://wpcandy.com/presents/wordpress-32-redesign-comparison-gallery has a great comparison gallery for you.

    There's a lot of subtle differences that stand out (and annoy) some people.

    My personal opinion is that WordPress can't be all things for all people, so I accept it for what it is and change it when I can't stand it ;) Like I changed my HTML monospace font to something easier for me to read.

    I don't get it. MY plugins and settings are exactly where they were before. NOTHING changed except the design of the menu. I'm starting to think some people must have had a bunk update or something?

  26. thisisedie - No, they just don't like the color changes and the design. That's all. It's not that complicated, but they are just as entitled to THEIR opinion as you are to yours ;)

    daveke - I'm sorry, but they're not planning to roll back at this time. The locations of your plugins and settings did not change. The layout did, but if you look at http://wpcandy.com/presents/wordpress-32-redesign-comparison-gallery that may help you find things.

    OK, so I'm eating humble pie!
    Turns out I had a plug-in that was screwing things up. I updated the plug-in and all is well with the world once more.
    Sorry, WordPress :-/

    I have tried everything. This new WordPress dashboard is AWFUL and I could never learn to live with it. I CAN'T EVEN SEE! I'm blinded by the white, everywhere. I mean, are you all TRYING to blind us? Seriously.

    I can't get any help to re-create the old theme either. I don't know ANYTHING about PHP. There should be an option to bring back the old WordPress dashboard. It should be an option.

  29. _AngelicLies, there have been suggestions.

    You can theme your dashboard to change the colors. It probably feels like you're jumping into the deep end, but the good thing is the most of it IS NOT php. There's a little PHP and the rest is all CSS. So if you're willing, just take a deep breath and jump in :) We can help you if you have specific questions, or if you want to write the code and say 'Is this right?'

    Right now, no one feels the need to write the plugin, so you're on your own.

    The SIMPLIEST way would be to make a folder in your plugins directory. Let's call it 'angeldash' :)

    In that folder, make a .PHP file (call it angeldash.css if you want) with the following:

    <?php

    /*
    Plugin Name: Angel's Dashboard CSS
    Plugin URI:
    Description: My WordPress Admin Theme - Upload and Activate.
    Author: _AngelicLies
    Version: 1.0
    Author URI: http://example.com
    */

    function my_admin_head() {
            echo '<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="' .plugins_url('wp-admin.css', __FILE__). '">';
    }

    add_action('admin_head', 'my_admin_head');

    ?>

    In that same folder, COPY the wp-admin.css file from a 3.1.4 WordPress install (it'll be in wp-admin/css/ in any download).

    Then you can activate the plugin and see where that gets you. I CANNOT promise it will work. You WILL probably need to edit the CSS file. But. That's how you get started.

    Hello _AngelicLies;

    To get the previous version, you will have to discuss with your hoster and they will bring back your previous version (the version just before this one). I got mine back and I am working on it.

    If you are really waiting for something from this blog, no one will help you.

    They will come here to tell you they knowledge but we are not here to learn, we are because we have a problem. We have a problem because we are not designer and that means that we cannot code.

    For sure we know that someone heard what we said and will help us in the next release.

    WordPress press is popular because it is a ready made program that suit the user needs specially non-coders, non-designer.

    Those who knows a bit shift to phpcake or jomla.

    Contact your hoster to help you from the back up to get your previous version.

    Have a great weekend.

    I also wish a great weekend to everyone here. After all we are a family and I am sure that we will be reunite around the same program in the next release.

    Claudeleroy
