Hit Ctrl + F5 to reload so that it is not served from cache. It happened with me a few times when I was on a slow connection.
Thanks for the reply! I tried doing what you suggested, and it did get rid of the 3 lines of warning code at the top – but it is still displaying everything all messed up. Any other ideas?
Thanks!
If you’re going to do an update anyway, you could just delete all the core WordPress files and replace them with 2.8.4 copies anyway. It just sounds the dashboard isn’t loading (or finding) the stylesheet to format it all properly, but why that is I couldn’t really say without seeing the warnings/errors being given.
I checked again, and her current install is up to date – so she has been updating. I don’t know if she has been backing up – but the site is looking OK anyway – it is just the dashboard. Does anyone know exactly what file I would need to reupload to make it work properly? I really just don’t know what to try!
If it’s just a file missing, I’d guess wp-admin.css
Hi Everyone,
I too have the same problem – I am very new to wordpress and have just installed the most recent version and have installed no plugins except the theme Atahualpa all appears to be working, except the dashboard layout.
I looked at the wp-admin.css file which is installed – would it be anything to do with file permissions ???
The errors on my page are:
syntax error: load-scripts.php
line 1
and
wpGears is undefined
wp-admin/tools.php
line 147
can anyone offer any suggestions ??
I have just resolved this from another posting:
“I solved the problem for dashboard not using/finding CSS setting permissions for load-styles.php (in wp-admin directory) to 0755.
I solved the problem for managing/moving widgets setting permissions for widgets.dev.js (in wp-admin/js directory) to 0755.”
Hope this helps you too.
Didn’t help me wit hthe problem… :/ Set the permissions as above and cleared cache.
I don’t know if anyone found a solution but I have the same problem. I had been away for a couple weeks and when I returned my dashboard layout was a mess. All gray background and in list mode. Here is the error I had at the bottom of the page. Any help appreciated.

No more comment on this? I’m having the same problem. No changes on server.
I seem to have resolved my problem, thanks to this post: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/385764?replies=2
