I copied my development website over to a laptop, installed the files and database, and started the copy up with MAMP on localhost. The copy site comes up as usual on a browser but when I log in as administrator the dashboard shows as just a long list of single column http segments rather than the usual full page(s) multicolumn display. Too hard to work with.

How do I get the dashboard back to its normal look?

  • You may want to do a manual update.
I would re-install a fresh copy of the wp-admin, wp-includes and root files.
Just don’t touch the wp-content and wp-config.php in the root folder.

I think that something must have gone wrong during the migration and a few files are missing.

Thanks, Christine. Actually I just copied all the files over the local network from the machine that already works. The original copy to the laptop was via a USBdrive. That must have been defective. Anyway, the laptop copy is now totally functional,

    Thanks again!
