Dashboard menu, left side bar, collapses but I want it expanded (11 posts)

The dashboard menu, i.e. the left side bar, collapses but I want it to stay expanded.

It worked before, but then it started to malfunction. It happened when I created a new administrator user and when logging in as the new user.

I have erased cache and cookies.

I have looked at earlier posts about this problem. They were about 1 year old. It seems like the problem was never actually resolved. Any body knows?

What version of WordPress are you using?

I have Theme twenty ten. Although the theme should not be a problem, because it worked before with the same theme and I never touched any theme related things before it stopped working.

I did not touch any plugins before it stopped working, as far as I know.

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

What happens if you login using another browser?

I have deactivated all plugins, but nothing happens.
I have also tried a different brower, but nothing happens.

I do not believe it is theme specific, because it worked perfectly before.

I have not reset the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. I am afraid to cause problems because I am not familiar how to reset a plug in. It sounds like I have to go into a memory variable of a SQL database, and I would probably cause more harm than solving.

I guess I just have to wait for the next version of WordPress, where I hope the issue will be solved.

Not necessarily. Please re-read the page at link I posted above. An upgrade is unlikely to solve this issue.,

Sorry. I did not realize there was a link to an instruction.

    I did the phpMyAdmin thing , but my variable was already correctly set to a:0:{}

It is strange the problem with the left sidebar meny automatically closing started to occur for the new user (administrator). First i created a new user, then I logged in as the new user. For the old user it stilled worked, but now I have erased the old user. I thought at first it was due to a setting somewhere, where one could choose the left sidebar (the dashboard meny) to automatically close, but it seems that it is an unwanted behaviour that there is no setting for.

Have you tried clearing your browser cache and deleting cookies?

Yesterday I did delete most cookies. I saved the cookies for some sites though. I did clear the cache. I have Firefox. I have set the browser to delete most cookies after session. I never restarted the computer yesterday. The strange thing is that I had the same problem with microsoft internet explorer.

Today it seems like the problem has resolved. Maybe restarting the computer resolved the problem? I tried the dashboard of my blogg, and now the left meny sidebar stays open!!!

I wonder what kind of things that can make the dashboard to play such tricks. I am not a programme of this kind of things so I can not imagine. Somehow somekind of variables that are not properly controlled may influence the behaviour?
