Customizing my theme, some help please!

    I am really new to this, using the Twenty Fourteen Theme and trying to customize it. I have no idea what I’m doing, I’m not computer illiterate, just never done this before.

    Gone through many, many themes. I really just want to have my posts setup so that only the first 70 characters show, then a Read More link. No idea what to do here.

    Before you get too far into Child Theme creation (for theme customization without risk of losing your efforts to an update), and modifying the excerpt length using filters, take a look a this plugin and see if it might be what you need.

    Advanced Excerpt

    It appears to have a pretty straight forward configuration menu after it’s activated, and it looks like it may have the customizable excerpt features you’re looking for (and more).

    Thank you! I am still learning, allot. But this is what I was after. I really need to read allot more, still so much to learn.
