    Hi,

I finally got around to making a child theme for my website (i use picolight as the parent theme). I made a bunch of changes and activating it only to find out that all the widgets I had added when the parent theme was activated are gone.

Is there any way to carry over the widgets from the parent to child theme??

No. Widgets are stored on a per-theme basis - even for child themes.

Thanks for the quick response! So I just have to add the identical ones? But how can I see the old ones to copy them if I have to activate the child theme to add them?

There's no way to have two themes active at the same time - making notes or taking screenshots may be your best option.

ugh, ok. There really should be a way! I guess it's my fault for editing my parent theme from the beginning...i was too scared to make the jump to the child, hehe.

Yes, unfortunately, "I'll make a child theme later" generally creates grief and that's why we say over and over and over to do it first :). But usually, making the changes a second time is easier/faster than the first.
