Customize Theme or Start From Scratch?

    I’m new to WP. I want to create a custom theme, however I don’t know what’s best. Is it better to customize a theme (maybe even the default) or create one from scratch? Before I throw alot of work in this, I want to make sure I’m starting off right. Any information will be appreciated. Thank you.

    Often, when trying to learn how WordPress Themes work and are made, it is best to work with an existing Theme.

    DO NOT MAKE CHANGES TO EXISTING THEMES, such as TwentyTen. Your changes will get overwritten when the Theme is updated.

    Rather, do one of the following:

    1) Make a Child Theme of the Theme you want to modify
    2) Make a *copy* of the Theme, rename it, and then modify the renamed Theme
