"Customize" not working with Adventure Journal on self-hosted wordpress site (4 posts)

I'm trying to switch my self-hosted wordpress site to the Adventure Journal theme. I tested it first on an old wordpress.com site to see how I liked it, and it gave me the option to customize (buy a $30 upgrade package with custom fonts, colors, and CSS options). When I tried installing the theme on my self-hosted site, I am not given that same option to buy the customize package. Is this option available for this theme on a self-hosted site?

    Thanks!

These customized options are only available on WorPress.com. In order to do this on your self hosted site, you'll need to make the CSS changes by making a child theme.

Thanks, Christine! Is there an obvious reason I'm missing that I couldn't just make simple changes like font, colours, etc. directly in the adventure journal theme CSS file without making a child theme? I'm quite new to this...

If you make changes in theme files, the changes will be overwritten and lost when the theme is updated. Making a child theme lets you make changes and still update the theme (always a good idea so it stays secure and compatible with WP core). If you only want to make CSS changes, another option is to use a custom CSS plug-in -- jetpack is one option for that.
