Hey there,
I am ever so new to WP. I have pretty good knowlage of B2, and know how to customize it rather well. However, I have no clue how to edit WP. All I want is a simple blog, with simple tables. An example can be found at my TCG where I have Holoscan currently running, because I'm too lazy to install B2 to that portion of my site.

Tables..........CSS is much much better. To be honest, I've never put WP into tables, so I don't actually know, but here are some pointers to the CSS file which is what WP uses to control the output of the program.

Hey there,
I'm looking to see if anyone could help me customize my WP, I want something very, VERY simple. I would like my content to show up in tables, date time, author, etc also. It doesn't necisarrily have to be tables, just anything simple is fine. -

Okay.....first go check out some styles:

Using CSS is a lot easier than tables in the long run, and your site will look better and function better too.
If there are parts of the design that you want changing, such as colours, fonts, wanting images, then more help is here:

And if you have any quesions about how to take bits out of the WP code, or how to change anything, just ask away in here. It's better that questions are answered here because then someone with the same questions at a later date can also see the answers.
Don't forget too that if you are switching blog clients, you have an opportunity to change your layout to take advantage of the way WP presents information, and also the range of plugins that are on offer.

Lord, I'm sorry, I've been looking at the links you gave me ever since you posted them, and I still don't get them. Can anybody help me customize it? I just want a date on the top, signature on the bottom. Hehe, I'm sorry for driving you guys/girls off the wall. ><

Hmm, yes. It was the first place winner, I would want how it was formatted exactly, but of course I would want different colours and so.

Okay.....
If you have wp installed, then follow the directions on the style competition page above on how to get your page looking just like that.
What you need to do is get that in first, then it's time to play with colours / images. Are you any good with photoshop / paint shop pro / similar ?
There are 2 elements to getting your page how it looks:
1 - the actual design. Colours / images / size
2 - the content.
I would tackle them in that order.
That design makes heavy use of graphics - when you download and unzip it, have a look inside the folder - so ideally, if you could create or otherwise get hold of replacement images that are the same size it would be easy to change things round. Or you could use solid blocks of colours.
Download the style and look at the images, then check the demo at Alex's site to see where they fit in and how you want things changing.

Once the design is cool, then we tackle the content :) -

Hehe, I already have a layout ready, I just need the content part. [And yes, I use PSP7 :)] The main things I need is how to customize it so it'd match the background, so I have the date where I want it, how I sign it, etc.

Nope, he isn't even an admin or a moderator. There are two or three public-spirited guys who handle 80% of the support requests here, because they love WordPress and not knowing PHP this is the best way for them to contribute.
Without Podz, Root, and Nuclear Moose giving their time to answer questions, write tutorials and create templates, the only people using WordPress would be geeks and hackers. They deserve a lot more recognition than they currently get. -

Well I certainatly love him to death right now. He has been mucho helpful, as you can see above, I'm completely lost. I nominate him for Moderator..or Admin! Uh, you know, if you can do that. ^^

Anyway.. getting the date and your sig where you want it will be fine, it's the design that the trickiest. I'd offer to design it for you, but then my first custom blog wasn't too well received in the design stakes :)

Okay.........a list of questions to help us clarify stuff:
- How attached are you to that layout ?
- Is using tables and iframes essential or would just CSS be okay ?
- Do you want a large header graphic, and 2 columns of roughly equal width, or can there be a variation there ?
- There isn't a footer, so one will need building in.
- Is that width as wide as you want it to be ? -

Hm....what you have really is a picture, and we need to try o get everything carefully aligned within those borders. Tricky to do, and even trickier (almost impossible) to guarantee how it will look to all viewers.
That's perfectly possible to do using CSS, the main graphic at the bottom, and a small repeating pattern the covers your content areas.
Do you want your blog to be that size ?
Can the content areas be bigger ? Or do you want them to be that size and for what is in the to scroll.
Opening day ? The deadline ? -

I hope to have the opening day by Tuesday. >< Podz, if you have AIM, MSN Messenger, or Yahoo Messenger, it might be easier. :-P And I want the blog to be that size, sorry. >< And everything is aligned within' those borders, I don't know how to make it so it's compatiable with all of the browsers out there, so if anybody knows how, I'll worship and plug you forever. ^^

Anon - I mean this in the most helpful way but with that layout with WP squeeezed into a 3 inch box you are not getting the best value from WordPress. And it is never going to be cross browser compliant. Not in a month of Sundays. Sorry.

Mm, I've seen some blogs that use wordpress that have around "three inch box" xD Like http://www.posh.nu and http://www.sparkly.nu have it. ^-^ And there's no way it can look half way decent in anything out of IE forever? Ho hum.
