    This is another plug in of mine which stop working during the upgrade to 2.3.1 (Customizable Post Listings). In the function c2c_get_recent_posts it references database fields which are no longer there (when specific categories are listed).

    I believe this would be another one to replace with Custom Query String 2.7.2 correct? I have the CQS plug-in installed and see the options to add categories etc. What I can't seem to find anywhere is what code needs to be added into my source to call the CQS. In other words, right now in my side panel I have

    <?php c2c_get_recently_commented (9); ?>

    What would I replace this with to call in the CQS plugin?

    Am I on the right track?

    I also need to replace the customizable-post-listings in my non blog homepage to return a list of recent posts, will CQS do this for me also?

    No, CQS is not for getting the most recent posts. It is for defining the number of posts in different views; e.g. how many post to be shown on your main/index page, in category archive view, in monthly archive view, in search results etc.

    For getting the recent posts I found this plugin working with WP 2.3.1: http://girasoli.org/?p=26

    That's my bad as for CQS as I recommended that ;)

    But in thinking about it, doesn't CQS really allow you to say only display x number of posts for a given category on a given page?

    It does... but in the OP there is the request to replace the get_recent-posts in the sidebar.

    Missed that. Thanks.

    Thanks for all the suggestions. The easiest way I found to get what I wanted was a minor tweak to a small plug-in recently updated posts. It has the advantage of only needing one line added to my non blog home page and includes parameters to limit the number of posts. The tweaks are on the following related link.

    I know this topic is marked as Solved, but for future reference I will post the link to the new version of Customizable Post Listings compatible with WordPress 2.3.3. Thanks to Matt from http://abstractgourmet.com for providing it.

    You can see a detailed post about Customizable Post Listings here (The fix is available and listed in the comments, way down near the bottom): http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2007/02/14/customizable-post-listings-wordpress-plugin/
