Custom theme edits... how to? (7 posts)

I'm trying to edit the navigation for a site designed by someone else. It uses a custom designed theme and the navigation area is not editable through the WordPress admin.

Would anyone have an idea of how to access the code to make edits? I can view the page source code and see what I want to edit, but I can't find a way to get to the files themselves.

Try editing the theme's template files.

Well officially no theme is listed as being used. When I click on the 'Editor' link under 'Appearance' in the admin I get an 500 (Internal Server) Error page.

    Any ideas?

I found the file I needed to edit. I edited the page.php file in the wp-content/themes/default/ folder.

That's where all the custom page code was. Mostly just header and footer links.

Thanks for trying to help me esmi.

    Never edit the default theme.

If I hadn't edited the page.php file I never would have been able to edit the site's navigation.

Care to give it a look then?
