custom theme dashboard access from WP .com account -> possible? (10 posts)

My client has a pre-existing wordpress.com account/website. She has commissioned me to create a completely separate, custom theme site.

She would like to be able to log into her .com account and have access to the custom theme dashboard. I have a big feeling that this is not possible. Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

I doubt if you have access to the theme as they install by admin

    Sorry, I don't follow.

I created a theme for a client and I am the admin.
She wants to be able to access the dashboard for this theme from her own wordpress.com account.

You will check with wordpress.com forum as this is wordpress.org self hosted forum.

I'll check there. Though, any interaction between accounts would probably require some involvement of my custom (wordpress.org) theme.

I'll keep this topic open just in case.

No it's not possible. What you can do is to use the same user credentials on the .org setup and import the data over.

That's essentially a move from .com to .org and your client won't have to use .com any more.

The wordpress.com blog is a completely different website (its her own personal account) from the custom theme I've created for her and her colleagues.

Does what you're suggesting still apply?
If so, could you instruct or refer me to information on how to import the data over?
    Thanks.

Yes it still applies, but check if your client wants the content moved over. From what you just said, it sounds like one is a personal site while the other is a business site.

WordPress.com and .org are separate entities. There's no way for you to modify the WordPress.com interface to administer a self-hosted WordPress.org site. All you can do is to let your client use the same credentials, but it's still a separate install. So changing the password later on 1 side will not affect the other. The URL for logging in will also be different.

The Dashboard may look the same but they're totally separate instances.

    For importing content, see http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_Content
