I have a custom post type “e-book” and one of its custom field is a text field called “Author”.
I was wondering if it’s possible to show up this field in a column of the post overview admin screen, and also how to make it searchable so that user can search in the admin panel an “e-boook” by its “author”?

You can customize columns. It’s one of the options/tabs when you define your post type. Check the wiki — each screen in the CCTM has an info link to a relevant page in the wiki.

Searching for that value is another matter though — that’s probably not easily possible given the limitations in the WP architecture.
