I'm not very fluent with wordpress but I'm creating a website for someone and I have run into a problem. I've created a custom template for the home page which has 3 parts: a slideshow plugin, and editable content area, and a small blog loop (which is done). I'm under the assumption that the code for the plugin needs to be entered through the edit page panel. Using a custom template seems to disable whatever I enter in the edit page panel. So how can I still use a custom template and the edit page panel? I've tried searching but I haven't been able to find a solution.

add a standard loop to show the page content before your small blog loop;
it might help if you paste the full code of your template into a http://pastebin.com/ and post the link to it here.
