Custom Template file for a specific post?

Is there any way that I can have a different template file for a specific post? It seems like you can only target them by category, and not individually like the wordpress custom page templates?

I googled… and everywhere everyone is mentioning that you have to use a plugin for it, but problem is that my posts are inside a custom post type, so I’m pretty sure those plugins won’t work for me.

Is there at all a code that I can use in functions maybe? Or a plugin compatible with custom post types? I desperately need a solution!
