   I've read that when using categories it's best to keep each post within just a single category for SEO purposes (so you're not duplicating content), but right now I'm working on a new layout for my site making use of custom taxonomies, one of which is going to be Genre. I'd like to have it be hierarchical like Categories, so I could have things like Comedy then a bunch of sub-genres, then the same for Drama, Horror, etc. The problem here is that a lot of things fall into multiple genres. Would I be safer doing this as a non-hierarchical taxonomy instead so I could put in multiple genres? Does it matter?

   I do plan to have archive pages for each genre that will contain lists of posts in that genre, which I know will create some duplicates no matter what, for example a movie might be a comedy and show up on the comedy page and also have a lot of action elements so it'd be on the action page as well.

   Is there another solution I'm not thinking of?

   I have a shop, which uses custom taxonomies

   And same situation, things that fall into the more generic 'clothing' cat are also 'women's clothing' or 't-shirts'

   in the end, I was more concerned about user experience rather than SEO, so I went with heirarchical and just categorized them how I want

   I just felt that users being able to easily find things was the most important thing.

   I also went with the archive page too.... same reason

   We dont use tags at all and barely use categories but still manage to rank at page #5 or higher. We mostly land on page 1 & 2 for some pretty popular words.

   I would place less emphasis in tags and categories unless you're a store front and more on links like suggested pages etc...

   Download a related posts plugin. At risk of angering the moderator gods I will suggest Arkayne.

   Seeing as this is an SEO thread, SEO plugins should be OK. This one just happens to be one I built.
