custom styling for woocommerce categories (7 posts)

    I am using hooks and customizing the template files to use woocommerce. On my products page I want a list of categories along the top like this. I would even settle for a neat list of them where my bread crumbs are or along the left or right side. Obviously when you choose to have categories displayed on the catalog page it does so with thumbs and all within the product loop in a grid format. I was trying to remove the grid formating but nothing has worked. I thought maybe putting the categories directly into a template file but couldnt get that to work either. Is their a hook or a filter to accomplish most of this and do the rest via css/html....i know the answer is right under my nose...help please.

    I was able to get categories to show outside of the loop by adding the code below to my functions.php file however it only works when the “Show subcategories on the shop page” box is checked in the catalog settings page. I feel like im in the right direction.

    add_action( ‘woocommerce_before_shop_loop’, ‘woocommerce_product_subcategories’, 10 );
    function woocommerce_show_categories($cat_args){
    $cat_args['hide_empty']=0;
    return $cat_args;
    }

    It seems that I misunderstood his question. What I am trying to accomplish is on a custom built theme but yes my reference link is for the flexishop2 theme. I own that theme and have ripped it appart trying to figure out how they set their categories that way...no idea.
