Hi, I’m adding a new section to an existing wordpress site.

I need to add a “Staff” page that lists members of staff, by name and photo. Within that page, need to list by “District”… Eg heading “Staff in District 3”, then appropriate staff, then “Staff in District 2”, etc.

Each staff member clickable and leads to their own single page. The single pages also need to have the staff index relisted in thumbnail format on the side of the page.

I started doing this with categories, but doesn’t seem flexible enough.

Should I do this with custom post types?

I’m a php and html programmer, but new to wordpress, so I need all the help I can get.

    Thanks a bunch.
    🙂

  • Can you explain more why the category approach does not work?

Without knowing more specifics, I probably would look at using a Custom Post Type with a custom taxonomy for district.

You can use Advanced Custom Fields plugin for making custom posts.

Thanks for your replies. I did in fact use a Custom Post Type, and it’s working.
I used wp_editor() for extra custom fields.
I have another issue or two but they’re different issues, so I’ll do a new post.
    Thanks again
