Custom Post Types Archives

Hi

Im coming up against a brick wall when trying to add links to custom post type archives. I have already added my theme files but the menu items i create simply will show a link to them.
I have even tried to add category templates for the post types, the theme will register the category file but will show any post types.
It seems like the theme will not accept custom post types.
