I have a custom post type set up and the single page view is showing for each post in the post type (e.g.: http://example.com/items/foobar)...but when I try to go to the overview page (http://example.com/items) it doesn't show, only a 404 error.
What am I doing wrong? I used the EXACT same setup as at the bottom of this page, see the example: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/register_post_type
how come I can't get that overview page to show up?

I should also mention that this is a Mult-Site install...so I don't know if that effects anything with multiple custom post types. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

I am encountering this problem as well. I've set up custom post as per the page jsonb123 mentioned. While I am able to get the single page view to work, I am unable to get the overview page to work.
Coincidentally, I am using a multi-site installation as well, and I am wondering if it's a bug for multi-site...
I am using WP 3.0.1
