I’ve taken over admin of a website ‘built on the Bones structure using boilerplate html5 and LESS’ – all of which I know very little about.

I can’t remove the category part of the URL.

When I took over, permalinks were set at ‘Post Name’ which should do what I want. I have re selected and saved that several times. I’ve also tried using ‘Custom Structure’ /%postname%/ and saving that, but the category name still remains between the domain name and the post name.

It seems several things have been hard coded in this Bones template. I have looked in functions.php and the only mention of permalinks is in some code about breadcrumbs.

Please can anyone say how this was done or suggest files to examine?
I know WordPress, HTML, CSS and I can edit JS and PHP with instruction.

The answer is that the ‘categories’ that won’t obey the permalink setting are extra admin menu items . They are called by fubnctions.php and each new menu item works like posts, and has a php page of setup. In this theme Bones that’s in the Library folder.
