   How can I get the new editor to stop stripping custom HTML tags that I need to use from posts? Tag in question <xspf> for Boriel's flash mp3 player.

   There is/was an ongoing discussion about custom CSS and tags such as this. The safest thing is probably to disable the rich text editor when editing old posts that incorporate such elements, which are currently not understood by the editor.
