custom homepage help

I’m creating a custom homepage for a cms type site. There’ll be a slider at the top and below I’d like to have a 6 panel grid layout (2 rows of three) This layout would have 6 images with a brief text under each one. Both the image and text would act as links to company services. I know I can code this in myself but my question is: is there a plugin or method(custom post types) that would allow me to create this set up so that it could be edited by the site owner and he could make changes as needed?
