Custom gallery at the end of posts?

Where they have the box images at the bottom of their post that link to a custom gallery. I’ve played with some plugins but have only found that they use lightbox or other types of popups. I would like to increase the page views count and possibly ad some ads to the gallery pages.

Is this something dooable or will it require lots of customization?
