Custom Field More than 200 Characters (5 posts)

I have a custom field to collect testimonies from people signing the petition. It's currently set up to limit to 200 characters. I thought I fixed it, but I guess I just allowed them to type in more than that. The program isn't collecting or displaying it.

Can I extend the number of characters that is stored?

    Thank you!

The field that holds the custom field submissions is in the wp_dk_speakup_signatures table and is called "custom_field".

The data type of the field is set to varchar(200). You should be able to edit this in PHPMyAdmin and change the 200 number to the larger number that you want.

    Hi Kreg,

Since updating the plugin on a site that had not bee updated for a while, I am having an issue, not with the amount that people can type into the petition at sign up, but with the amount being shown on the signatories page.

I have changed the custom field to 400 in wp_dk_speakup_signatures as above, but wondered if that just affects the sign up stage?

This was all ok before the update. Is there somewhere else that I need to change the number of characters shown on the signatories page, which is currently 200?

    Hi again,

I didn't develop this site and just read the line "Longer comments are limited to 5 lines – but you can scroll down inside the box to read them." above the signatories section on the page link I sent you. It appears that this was how they were previously dealing with longer comments.

So the update has changed this functionality (removing the scroll function) and limited the number of characters. I thought I'd better mention this.

Looks like the shortcode form has a maxlength="200" set on the custom field. You can change this to a higher number in includes/emailpetition.php on line 116.
