   I added a custom field to many of my posts and then in single.php I added that filed name to the output under the post title. The custom field displays just as I wanted. I made the same changes to defaultcat.php but when view all the posts in category view the custom field will not display.

   How can I get the custom field I added to each post to display in category view?

   With the help of the Template Hierarchy article, determine (or create) what Template is displaying your categories, then make the same change you did to single.php.
