I am very much a novice and despite reading all the posts regarding this subject I still cannot set a background image to a couple of pages within my site.
I am using udesign theme, so have been lucky to make changes so far that have not involved using code.
Whichever code I type in is displayed exactly as I input it when I view the website... am I even typing it in the right place (in the body of the page).

U-Design is a paid theme. One of the things you pay for is support. Try asking the theme supplier.

The problem with asking for help with paid themes is that many (maybe most?) questions involve looking at the code.
With a free theme, anyone can download the code and examine it, even install and test it. That is not possible with a paid theme. So, a lot of questions about paid themes get referred back to the supplier.
