You might want to specify which statistical detail you’re looking for so if someone knows the answer they can post it here. Thanks!

oh … yeah, i see, sorry … ;-D
I am looking for the amount of registered users to the wordpress.org-forums. Just the very number … nothing about average postings or activity status … Thanks!
What for? It really wouldn’t help you, since with open registration and a policy to NOT delete spammers, the numbers are way off.
However from a remark Otto made in September:
Data as of about 5 minutes ago (note, numbers are raw and include
things like spam and deleted topics, etc):
Topics: 648,214
Posts: 2,358,056
Total registered users: 2,734,563
Active users in support forums (have ever made a post): 314,960
Note that many people register and then never post anything. Never
been sure why they do this. There are legit reasons, like logging onto
the codex, or plugin/theme uploads, but 2.7 million is still a lot.
We’re over 3,000,000 users now I think.

Thank you Ipstenu!
As I said in my earlier post: it is just for some statistical data.
Since you got this issues with spammers or one shot logins on every other platform as well, it kind of makes them all comparable.
It is just a number … let’s say for a starting point to dig deeper from – but still mentionable.
Yeah but … You get how that’s JUST people who’ve registered in the forums. It has no direct correlation to people who use WP.

You are absolutely right … for information concerning usage statistics you can ‘rely’ on websites like this .
Nevertheless the overall amount of registered users gives you a hint of how many people are interested in -in this case- WP, how many took the time to fill out the registration form, took the time to come to this website to get involved/informed or what so ever. Since you cannot rely on the number of visitors (came by accidentally), this very number is a basis you can work with or proof relations compared to other empiric researches.
(I know, that there are some who just registered and never came back, but as I said – you got these issues on other sites as well)
It’s a safe bet today to say we have around 3 million users who have, at the very least, logged in and posted something. We’re just over 3 mill total, and if you remove the 300k who never post (and inflate appropriately) it’s as close as can be gotten with a moving target.
