css targeting drop-down menu item when hovered on sub-element (twenty fourteen)

I need to know how to target a particular element in the twenty fourteen theme:

1. Menu has drop-down item
2. User hovers over drop-down menu
3. User hovers over one of the sub-elements.

I cannot figure out how to target the background color of the parent item in this scenario. I would like to change it from the twenty fourteen default green. I’ve tried every single green one that comes up in chrome dev tools, but since the element isn’t focused, I’m having a hard time inspecting it properly.
