Creating Child Theme After Parent Theme has already been altered (1 post)

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie WordPress user and have so much to learn. I created my website using the Responsive Theme last October. Since then, I've made many cosmetic changes to the theme (i.e. colors, fonts, outlines, etc). Since I'm such a newbie, I had no idea that I should have been using a CHILD THEME. So, my question to the community is: SInce I have already created and modified the original Responsive Theme, can I at this point create a Child theme and somehow copy all the changes I've made to the original (parent) theme? I now understand that if I updated the parent theme, I will lose all those changes I made. I'm even afraid to install the latest version of WordPress, in fear I may screw up my website.

I'm learning slowly - but if anyone has any advice/instructions, I would be so grateful!
    Thanks!
