• I have a site that is live and has been for several years and thousands of posts. I recently made a test site in a folder I named test, but I want to know how I can hook it up to the live database, so we can test the theme with the current posts, etc. I thought if I just uploaded the bb-config and the wp-config from the live site to the test site, that would work, but apparently not.

I would really appreciate any help you can give.

  • I would not recommend accessing your live site’s WordPress database from a test site. Especially with the same Prefix. There are just too many ways to “kill” your Live system “by accident”.

I have always built Test Sites by copying both the database and complete WordPress folder to a different domain. Even then, care is needed to make sure you don’t accidentally revert to the Live system if you forget to change key entries in the WordPress database.

I appreciate the advice… guess I will copy the database.
