Creating A Private Blog for internal compaany communications (12 posts)

I am trying to create a private blog to help my company communicate better internally. For the past two days all I have done is research blogs but cant find the key information I need. Can anyone please answer these questions for me:

If I create a private blog on WordPress does everyone I want to have access to that blog need to be a WordPress user or can I invite them to the blog via e-mail without making them register for worpress??

In relation to the above question. For each individual private blog post am I going to have to invite each person individually each time, or can they be invited to the blog once, and then have access to all post after that?

Will WordPress send notification e-mails when a new post is created in the private blog??

Basically I want to create a Private blog for my company that only company employees can access without having to register for wordpress, and they can receive e-mail notifications each time I post. Sorry if this is super basic but I could not find straight answers on the above anywhere.

This sounds like a question related to WordPress.COM.

Can you confirm: are you using self-hosted WordPress, or the hosted blog service, WordPress.com?

Thanks for the reply chip. I am using wordpress.com not the self hosted currently but could easily switch over.

Well, as-asked, I can't really answer your questions, since they apply to WordPress.com.

If you give self-hosted WordPress a try, and have similar questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

(I would try to answer them now, but the implementation of the two, for your specific use case, won't be exactly the same, so I don't think you'll have exactly the same questions.)

Once again Thank you Chip. At this point I think I will just have to set something up, and go from there to test functionality. Thanks again for the input.

Hi, I have pretty much the same question. We are looking at internally hosting WordPress on our servers and i cant find information on:

Are we still limitted on the number of users we can add to the blog?

Can users be invited to the blog without having to sign up to wordpress?

Can we link access to the internal blog site to users windows login details?

Sorry if these are basic questions but i cant find information on any of them anywhere..

    Kind Regards

Still? The number of blog users has never been limited.

Can users be invited to the blog without having to sign up to wordpress?

    Yes.

Can we link access to the internal blog site to users windows login details?

In theory, that might be possible but it would involve some serious, heavy-duty, custom coding. So it might be safer to assume "No".

Brilliant, thank you for your quick answers..

With regards to the numbers, i was under the impression that you were limited to 35 users if the site is private? I guess this wouldn't apply if it was internally hosted>?

Thanks again, Much appreciate the help.. ( i need it!)

That's not one I've heard of. If the blog is going to hosted internally, why even bother to set it to private?

    Hi there,

I'm not sure if you're still looking for an answer on this but just wanted to let you know I've been trying to find out if there is a way to invite users to my private (self-hosted) blog.

The answer is no (technically) - you can 'add users' on the self hosted version, but you actually create their account and define their username rather than it being an invite where they can set up their own details.

I guess it still has the same outcome, but I do really like the ability of inviting users from WP.com rather than create their account on WP.org.
