   I am very new to wordpress, and I had not considered it untila recent theme came out which was very similar to my own site which I was coding from scratch. Now this theme came out, I may aswell us WP.

   However, as well as all the WP functionality which I want, I also want to use my own gallery which I have coded.

   How do I create my own *new* WP independent page in which I could use my own gallery scripting, getting images from the WP blog (I know the PHP for this) but use a the template/theme

   i.e.

   index.php is on the /content/themes/mytheme/ directory.

   If I put a mygallery.php in that folder, and call get_header() ; nothing works....

   I understand it's because nothing is included etc, and it doesn't know where to look for the functions, but can someone offer some advice for what I am trying to achieve?

   fantastic. I cannot believe how powerful this platform is?!

   This seems to do everything that I want but is obviously a lot more robust than a hobbyist coder like me could produce! I have read a lot on the codex pages, and learnt a lot, but I didn't fully understand the use of a custom template page. After following the directions on the above page, it took me 5 minutes to understand the instructions, then only a further 30 seconds to complete it!

   I think I will invest in a decent book about WP. It ticks all my boxes now.
