Creating a High-End Featured Post Block

    Hey Guys.

    I am looking to create a featured post block like the one in http://www.theatlantic.com/ .

    I am the Web Publisher for the recently launched http://tischfilmreview.com/ and this is sort of the missing piece.

    I have looked at a bunch of plugins but nothing seems to be right for this.

    I would appreciate any help on this, we have been spending long nights on this site.

    Can you better define how you imagine your “featured post block” would exist on your site? Would these be posts from a specific category? Or posts you want to flag with a tag or custom field? Or …?

    Basically, what are “featured posts” on your blog? Once we know this, coming up with some custom code for your template, or perhaps an existing plugin if one provides a solution, should be simple.

    How would you do this if you were trying to feature articles from a certain category?
