   I've been trying to edit the WordPress calendar so the dates with posts have a different background color then those without, but I'm unsure how to do it. Theoretically, I assume I have to edit the calendar bit in general-template.php to change the id for td's with post links, but I don't know how to actually accomplish this.

   Actually I wonder it myself. TD's with links in Calendar should have class, like it has id="today" for today. Without it you can't customize TD's with links to older posts.
