    Hello,

I need to generate a unique number in a format like advisor-0005, every time a user is created.

I also want the administrator to modify this field, but not allow the users to modify this in their profile.

    Is this possible? and how?

I am aware of the WordPress User ID, but I do not want to use it for this purpose, as I am building a ecommerce site with special membership.

It would be done with user meta

If you don't want to run through the code .. I'm sure there are plugins available to do it
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cimy-user-extra-fields/
Comes to mind... I haven't used it, but I see mention around the forums that this can be used to add meta fields to users that only admins can edit
