Create a template from Adobe Illustrator Files (3 posts)

Hi, I'm completely new to WordPress.

Somebody has given me the design website in a couple of Adobe Illustrator files and asked me to create a site with them.

I have wordpress installed and understand the basics.

But I don't really understand how to go from those files to a WordPress template. I've been looking for tutorials or explanations online for ages but I can't find anything.

If anybody could give me a basic explanation of what i need to do, or point me towards any good resources, it would be really appreciated.

    Thanks

Bring the AI files into Photoshop as a Smart Object and if you need to slice and dice any images.

Build your template as HTML files test it, and then port to WordPress.

Great on-going tutorial here and the most up to date I've seen:

    http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/site-builds/convert-a-warm-cheerful-web-design-to-html-and-css/

Building a template is a lot of fun, but fraught with headaches if it's your first one. Took me two weeks to get one up and running with the attendant files/coding.

You may also want to look at blank themes to kick start your project:

    Starkers:

    starkerstheme.com/

Which is essentially 2010 stripped to bare essentials.

    Or I prefer this:

If you use the 960 Grid then look at this:

    Other Resources:

    http://digwp.com/

It's also one of the key resources for me building my own theme.

You may also find this useful:

    This is a bit dated:

    And bookmark this:

You'll need to refer to it frequently.
