Create a 'members only' site for registered users where I can supply password (5 posts)

I am working on a multi-site for my organisation. We are a membership organisation so therefore would like to have a whole 'members area' site that is only accessible to our members.

Each member will need an individual login and a password (hopefully one we supply at first but then they can change it later on) I would need access to users so that if they leave us I can block their access.

I have had a look at members only and registered users and also Manage user access but I can't seem to get it to work - for one I can't find the area where I supply the person with their registration or monitor their login. Secondly when I try to test it on a dummy site I have set up it appears that anyone can access the site.

What would be perfect is if someone could tell me about a plugin that would allow a homepage to display publicly where users can login and then when they login they can access all the private information (this includes posts, pages, categories and downloads) AND where I can monitor who is logging in and if they are no longer members I can stop them from having access.

Is there something like this out there???

    Many thanks

Have you tried aweber? They have a WP integration plugin so you can control the protected pages + it offers you to either 'user can create their password' or for you the aweber system to generate a password directly.

There are several membership plugins for WordPress

Investigate their features list to see what suits your needs

    i use the following plugins

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/user-access-manager/

With this you can setup user groups that you only want to supply access to.
So you could setup categories with only a certain access to them say subscriber author etc.

Then use a plugin such as
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/ajax-login/

    or sidebar login.

Use these so your clients dont get directed to the backend after login.

I am working on a membership system at the moment with file uploads. WordPress makes this very easy to do.

also if you want to modify the core code to set it up yourself.

You could assign a post to a user after registration then use this within the loop.

i have blogged about it here.
