Could you spare time to help build a site? (3 posts)

When I say build, I won't be asking you to do any work. Basically, I don't understand WP as well as I would like to. I have had an idea to use WP for reviews, I don't use ratings but would like to but I digress.

What I need is a developer or someone quite experience to help me develop a map of how it would work or what I can do to get it the way I want it. IT's a bigger idea than I expecte and I could really do with discussing this with someone to help me achieve it.

IF you could reply here, or email me at sekhu.net at gmail dot com I would appreciate it.

I don't think I can do it without imput. The idea is to have a WP install for each category and a one for all the categories. What I mean by this is. The first site will be Reviews, this will pull RSS feeds from the other sites, Music, Film, Game, Book. I don't eeven know how to do that. So I want them to display excerpts with a link to the post. Reviews will be the portal if you will. I want each site ot have a slightly different design, pertaining to the medium. I would like each one to display it's topic as the main post on their own page.

There's more to it, but I think it's quite complicated - should I try something else or will be very easy to achieve in WP?

    Thanks in advance

This is a good question, since it's something I'm working toward myself.

The concept is what I call 'landing pages'. In WordPress, it's the per category page. I thought at one time there was a way to dynamically style different areas of a site under theme control -- if not, it shouldn't be that difficult.

You certainly could do this with wordpress 'Pages', building a custom starting page for each discrete section, have them each with custom code to pull whatever feeds you want, and thus try to avoid the multi-site issues.

You can certainly write your own page code and do a custom version of 'The Loop' on each Page (or multiple on the 'home page') to display select sets of titles/excerpts.

It's certainly not very easy, but I'd think with some input from some folks better versed in 1.5 and Pages it shouldn't be that bad.

Until I get my site moved over to 1.5, and all my custom plugins and hacks converted over, I won't know whether it is now easier or harder to approach it the way I've intended to the past few months... ;)

thanks for your comments david, I'vve visited your site and it's approach I've tried to understand :)

I think with 1.5 there is hopefully a much cleaner way to build the site without having to really hack it to pieces. I@ll tinker but it would be great to have some first party advice on this.
