   I know WP.com is free to post but has limitations. How much does it cost for WP.org? I can't find this information anywhere.

   It's free. Look at the Download tab at the top of this page.

   the .org version is free? I thought the .com was the only free version of WordPress.

   If you look at the Download tab at the top of this page you will see you can download 2.8.6, the current version, for free.

   Before installing WordPress, you will need to get a domain, and a hosting plan...both typically are NOT free.
